Cellular carrier Verizon Wireless confirmed that it would start selling the much-anticipated Motorola Xoom tablet from 24th of February, Thursday.
Verizon Wireless will offer the Motorola Xoom with as well as without a two-year service contract. Customers who want the tablet with no service contract will have to spend $799.99, while those who opt for the tablet with a two-year contract will get it for $599.99 along with data service plan that starts at $20 per month.
To begin with, the Motorola Xoom will run on the 3G network of Verizon Wireless, but the carrier will upgrade the tablet to 4G LTE sometime in the second quarter of this year at no extra cost.
The Motorola Xoom runs Google’s Android 3.0 (codenamed Honeycomb) operating system, and features a 1GHz dual core processor, a 10.1-inch display and two cameras- one rear-facing 5-megapixel HD camera and one front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video conferencing.
The user can rotate screen image just by making use of his/her fingers. Unlike the Apple iPad, the Motorola Xoom supports tabbed browsing and Adobe’s Flash.
Meanwhile, rumors are swirling that Apple is preparing to launch its second-generation tablet, the iPad 2, sometime near April.
